Court of Appeals Upholds Kitty Hawk opinionEGHS partners Hugh Stevens, Amanda Martin and Mike Tadych prevailed in a January 2, 2007, NC Court of Appeals opinion involving access to public records. The trio represented The Outer Banks Sentinel, of Dare County. In 2004, a reporter and the editor of The Sentinel were denied access to the Kitty Hawk Town Attorneys' billing records and other reports relating to beachfront condemnations. The Sentinel brought suit seeking the records, In the Spring of 2005, Judge Parker ordered the records to be opened. The Town and its attorneys appealed the trial court's decision. In its opinion, the Court of Appeals dismissed part of the Town's appeal as mooted by their actions and affirmed Judge Parker's decision that the records needed to be open. Read the opinion |
