Amanda Martin Wins Ruling Upholding Journalist's Privilege
In July, EGHS partner Amanda Martin successfully persuaded Superior Court Judge Ervin Spainhour to quash a subpoena issued to a Salisbury Post reporter by the Cabarrus County District Attorney. In a written ruling, Judge Spainhour found that the reporter, Shamona McClary, was entitled to invoke the qualified privilege established by North Carolina's journalist's "shield law," G.S. §8-53.11.
