Estate and Tax Planning
We
offer a full array of legal advice and services to individuals seeking
to plan their estates and preserve their personal assets. We have the
knowledge and experience to advise our clients on all tax and non-tax
issues related to estate planning matters. Effective succession planning
for a family-owned business requires thoughtful analysis of legal and
tax issues that we can outline for owners to consider in the context of
financial realities and family dynamics. We have extensive experience
in preparing wills, trusts and other estate planning documents. We regularly
advise trustees with the administration of trusts. If a disabled family
member needs a guardian or a special needs trust, we can handle all aspects
of guardianship proceedings and can draft a special needs trust to preserve
eligibility for essential governmental benefits. In assisting our clients,
we are always mindful that each client matter requires sensitivity to
individual needs and personal privacy.
Louis Wooten, who has 18 years of experience
in estate planning and administration for both modest and high-value estates,
leads this practice area. He has represented many family-owned and other
closely held businesses with respect to a wide array of estate, tax and
non-tax business planning issues. Louis received his LL.M. in Taxation
from Emory University and clerked for two years on the United States Tax
Court for the Honorable Robert P. Ruwe.
Larry McBennett emphasizes to clients the need to make intentions clear when providing for the family during life and after death. He has advised numerous families make arrangements for the transfer of assets, care of children and appointment of an agent to manage financial and medical decisions later in life.
